It has been my privilege to serve as the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Tennessee since December 1991. Teresa and I have enjoyed seeing our children, Josh and Natalie, grow into young adulthood over the course of these years. Josh was 19 months old when we came to Elizabethton and Natalie was born here in 1995.
Before coming to Calvary, I served Mountain Terrace Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee as Pastor. I was honored to serve several other churches in Associate/supportive ministries: Shelby Forrest Baptist Church, Millington, TN; Southland Baptist Church, Memphis, TN; Calera Baptist Church, Calera, AL; First Baptist Church, Holly Springs, MS; and First Baptist Church, Marrero, LA. These churches and their pastors were special to us and we value each greatly.
The Lord allowed me to attend some wonderful institutions of higher learning. These institutions include Cleveland State Community College (AA, 1980); Carson-Newman College (BA, 1982); New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (MRE, 1984; M.Div, 1989); and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min. 2003). My education as a pastor started much earlier as I was raised in the home of Pastor Ron and Margaret Sorah. My father served Calhoun First Baptist Church, Calhoun, Tennessee for thirty years. He, more than anyone else, helped me understand the high calling of being a pastor. I am blessed to have had such a wonderful mentor.
